2015 Triple Crown Photo Contest: "Racing to Glory"

I. Contest Mechanics

  1. The contest is open to all members of the Press Photographers of the Philippines.
  2. Only photos published in a recognized publication, whether print or online, will be considered.
  3. There will be three legs for the contest, coinciding with the Triple Crown events, with corresponding themes:

a. First leg, 17 May 2015, Sunday, at San Lazaro Leisure Park:
"Horses of the Triple Crown"
* Photos must be taken at the racetrack, on the day itself, only of horses entered in the first leg of the Triple Crown, whether in the paddock, parade ground, or during the actual race
* Photos must be published within the following week, from May 18 to 24 (Monday to Sunday), and submitted to Philracom on or before May 26, Tuesday, 5pm.
* Judging shall be at the Commission on May 27, Wednesday.

b. Second leg, 14 June 2015, Sunday, at Santa Ana Park:
"Racing Fans"
* Photos may be taken at the racetrack or at off-track betting stations (OTBs)
* Photos must be published within the following week, from June 15 to 21 (Monday to Sunday), and submitted to Philracom on or before June 23, Tuesday, 5pm.
* Judging shall be at the Commission on June 24, Wednesday.

c. Third leg, 12 July 2015, Sunday, at Metro Turf:
"Personalities of the Sport" (jockeys, trainers, grooms, stablehands, etc.)
* Photos must be taken at the racetrack, on the day itself
* Photos must be published within the following week, from July 13 to 19 (Monday to Sunday), and submitted to Philracom on or before July 21, Tuesday, 5pm.
* Judging shall be at the Commission on July 22, Wednesday.

  4. All entries must be submitted to Philracom, along with accompanying clippings/tearsheets or printouts if published online, by the deadlines specified above, in the following formats:

a. as actual photos printed on high-quality photo paper, 8.5 x 11 inches, full color, unframed, unmounted, no markings (exhibit-quality prints);
b. and as high-resolution digital files (at least 2MB or higher) on CD. Costs of photo developing, etc. shall be shouldered by the participants. Late entries will not be considered.

  5. Entries must be submitted with the following information on a separate sheet of paper: Name of Photographer, Title of Photograph (if any), Date and Place Taken, Date of Publication and Name of Newspaper/Website Where Published, and Signature of Contestant.

  6. Participants may submit only one (1) entry each in each leg of the contest.

  7. Philracom shall bear no responsibility nor liability for delayed, corrupted, or lost entries.

  8. All entries shall be original materials taken by the participant and should not include any markings such as watermark, date/time stamp, signatures, or frames.

  9. Digital manipulation of the images is not allowed. Enhancements must be limited to basic post-processing such as adjustments of contrast and minimal color-balancing, sharpening, cropping, and dodging and burning.

  10. By entering this contest, the photographers share their copyright and allow Philracom the use of the entered photos, whether winning or non-winning. Philracom will give appropriate credit whenever the photo is published and used for the purpose of information, advocacy, campaigns, exhibits, and promotions in all its future projects, whether print, online, broadcast, or any other medium.

II. Selection of Winning Entries

  1. There shall be five (5) members of the panel of judges, to be designated by Philracom. They shall choose three (3) winning entries for each leg, according to the following criteria:

* Relevance of the photo to the contest theme: 40%
• Creativity, originality, style: 40%
* Technical excellence (clarity and quality of photo): 20%

  2. The names of winners and finalists shall be announced the winners on the Philracom website within the week following the judging.

  3. A date shall be set for the awarding of prizes, to be held at the Commission's office.

  4. The prizes for each of the contest's three legs are as follows:

1st Place: P20,000 plus P5,000 to the publication's Section Editor
2nd Place: P15,000 plus P3,000 to the Section Editor
3rd Place: P10,000 plus P2,000 to the Section Editor
