The Philippine Horse Racing Industry  profoundly acknowledges the importance of the Philippine Red Cross as the premier humanitarian organization that provides adequate, quality and safe blood supply  in order to protect the life and dignity of the countless individuals.

As part of this recognition, the Philippine Horse Racing Industry, through the auspices of the PHILRACOM  and the  Manila Jockey Club, Inc.,  donated  to the Philippine Red Cross thru the “Blood Samaritan Program”  a subsidy to cover for the blood processing fees of our indigent fellowmen.

In a humble ceremony held  last July  4, 2012 at the PHILRACOM Office,  PHILRACOM Officials headed by Honorable Chairman Angel L. Castaño, Jr., Commissioner/Executive Director Jesus B. Cantos and Commissioner Reynaldo G. Fernando, handed the donation to Philippine Red Cross Chairman/CEO  Honorable Richard “Dick” J. Gordon and  Chairwoman Honorable Ms. Rosa Rosal.

The continued support of the Horse Racing Industry to the Philippine Red Cross’  endeavors for charity  was culminated by a  “Blood Letting” activity, participated by the various sectors of the racing industry. This was held  last November 29, 2012 (Thursday) from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm at   the San Lazaro Leisure and Business Park (SLLBP) Main Lobby in Carmona, Cavite.

A total of one hundred two (102) willing blood donors were tested and screened by the PHILIPPINE RED CROSS (National Chapter) Team  led by Dra. Anne Claire Reyta, M.D., sixty four (64) of which qualified to donate blood.

Jose Ramon “Ding”  Magboo (Special Lugaw) and  OTB-SAPI, ably represented by President Cesar “Boy” Sanchez, Director Nicson Cruz, Director Bok Sanguyo, Director Remy (Lumpia & Pancit Malabon). Cantos and SLLBP officials headed by its Racing Manager, Mr. Ding Magboo, Ms. Zapanta went around the blood letting area and was enthusiastic in wandering around the track facilities up to the horse stables as she was an equine rider/lover herself.

The committed partnership between the Philippine Horse Racing  Industry and the Philippine Red Cross  has commenced,  to pave the way in providing  true  humanitarian service to  our  citizenry most especially  the  inauspicious.
